Ingredients
- Jalapeno simple syrup*
1/4 cup of honey
1/4 cup of water
1 jalapeno, sliced
- Margarita
8 ounces of tequila
8 ounces of fresh squeezed grapefruit juice (we use wegmans cold press)
2 ounces of lime juice (we use Trader Joe’s margarita mixer)
Grapefruit wedges and jalapeno slices for garnish
Trader Joe’s chili lime salt (optional but so good)**
Directions
- Jalapeno simple syrup
- For the simple syrup…combine all the simple syrup ingredients in a small saucepan. Heat until honey is dissolved (only needs low heat). Remove from heat and allow to cool, about 15 minutes. Strain and reserve.
- Then combine all the ingredients in a pitcher. Stir really well.
- Fill glasses with ice, add margarita and garnish with grapefruit and jalapeno slices.
Tips
- 1. * If you are interested in reducing the amount of sugar, but still like it spicy you can instead use “Hella Bitters” smoked chili flavors. A couple of dashes can replace the jalapeno simple syrup portion.
- 2. ** Add more spice by dipping the rim of your glass in a spicy salt rub. Combine 1/2 tsp. of Trader Joe’s chili lime salt. Take a piece of grapefruit and rub it gently around the rim of the glass and dip the glass in the rub.
