This yogurt and vinegar based marinade not only creates a tangy, delicious flavor but helps break down the protein making the chicken juicy and tender.  Bonus…less sugar and fat compared to other barbecue sauces!

Ingredients

  • 4 bonelesss chicken breasts

  • 1 cup of plain greek yogurt

  • 1/3 cup of vegetable oil

  • 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar

  • 2 Tbsp. of dijon mustard

  • 3 Tbsp. of Worcestershire Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp. of sugar

  • juice of 1/2 a lemon

  • 1 Tbsp. of Kosher salt and fresh ground pepper

  • 1 Tbsp. of smoked paprika

  • 1 tsp. of cayenne pepper (optional)

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Whisk until blended well. Reserve about 1/2 cup for basting.
  • Add chicken and marinade to gallon size baggie. Marinade chicken for at least 30 minutes (or up to 4 hours).
  • Preheat grill to medium -high heat (350-400 degrees). Lightly grease grill grates with non-stick spray.
  • Bring chicken to room temperature (about 30 minutes).
  • Place chicken on the grill and cook for approximately 6-8 minutes per side (USDA recommended). Keep lid closed while cooking.  Baste with marinade at the end for an additional 1-2 minutes per side. This prevents marinade from burning early and adds flavor at the end. Chicken should reach 165 degrees.
  • Allow chicken to rest 5 minutes before slicing.

Tips 

  • 1. We were inspired by Wegman’s Chicken Barbecue Marinade. So if you don’t have much time, this is a yummy alternative!
  • 2. Double the recipe and you will have leftovers, which can be used for a sandwich or a salad!
