minutesWhen the temperatures get cooler..it’s time to make drinks with mulled apple cider and smokey mezcal! The combination will be sure to warm you up! We included fresh thyme and sage to the cider which adds extra fall flavors and is a nice contrast to the sweet flavors of the apples.
Ingredients
- Cider*
2 1/2 cups of store bought apple cider ( we used trader joe’s)
1/2 tsp. of vanilla paste (we used trader joe’s vanilla bean paste)
1 cinnamon stick
1 sprig each of thyme and sage
1 blood orange spiked with a handful of cloves (you add the cloves yourself to the orange)
- Cocktail
2 shots (6 ounces) of mezcal
1 shot (3 ounces) of orange liquor (we used Gran Gala)
2 shots (6 ounces) of mulled cider
Juice from 1/2 fresh lemon
Optional garnish: apple slice, cinnamon stick, and fresh grated nutmeg
Directions
- For the Cider
- In a medium size pot, combine all cider ingredients (keep the blood orange with the cloves whole and just place in the pot with the cider) and heat on low for 30-40 minutes. Cool to room temperature and refrigerate for 1-2 hours. Remove blood orange from cider before using cider in drink.
- For the Cocktail
- In a shaker with ice, add mezcal, orange liquor, cider and lemon juice. Shake well. Pour into glasses with ice and garnish with suggested options.
Notes
- 1. * The cider will make more than two cocktails worth, so we recommend you either save it to make this cocktail again or heat it up and enjoy a glass of the cider on it’s own!
