Remember the classic snack…chips and onion dip! This recipe recreates the creamy dip without the packet of soup mix. The caramelized onions add so much more flavor and takes this appetizer to the next level. A crowd pleaser for sure!

Ingredients

  • 3 Tbsp. of butter

  • 3 medium size sweet onions, diced

  • 1 Tbsp. of kosher salt

  • 2 tsp. of sugar

  • 1 tsp. of garlic powder

  • 1/4 tsp. of cayenne pepper

  • 1 Tbsp. of thyme

  • 12 ounces of sour cream

  • 4 ounces of softened cream cheese

  • 1 tsp. of worcestershire sauce

Directions

  • In a medium size saute pan, melt butter. Add onions, salt, sugar, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and thyme. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring. Reduce the heat to medium low and continue to cook for 25-30 minutes or until onions are golden brown, stirring occasionally. Remove from stove and allow to cool.
  • Add sour cream, cream cheese and worcestershire sauce to a medium size bowl, mix until smooth. You might need to microwave the mixture in 15 second intervals if necessary.
  • Add caramelized onions and mix until combined.
  • Serve at room temperature.

Tips

  • 1. Serve with chips and/or veggies. This dip would also be delicious on toasted bagels.
